I recently unsubscribed after trading the system a couple of years. I still managed to make about 50% over that time, but it was close to 100% at the peak. When I first subscribed the vendor used to exit losing positions after 2 days. Now he hangs on to losers for months at a time -- a recipe for disaster...especially in this market. The other reason for the poor performance is simply the market meltdown since October. There were just too many falling knives and not enough stocks that bounced. If this market ever returns to normal I expect this system will do well again, but my money is in long/short systems for now.
Can someone please elaborate on what happened to this system after 9/24/08? It just became an hungry beast, eating away at our capital and destroying years of progressive accumulation. Now, 6 months (and $600 in fees) later, 56% of capital is gone, and there is no sign of recovery in sight. If you're still in, one word: RUN!
I have been following this system for many months before it was moved to C2. It provided excellent returns, going long or short depending on market direction. I have never seen a better directional stock trading system.
The 3 Gulf Stream systems are truly one of the brightest spot on C2, the oldest one now being 1 year old. Even though this one is presently performing the best it will be only a matter of time, according to the vendors, before the other 2 catch up or take over - they all work on similar principles. The vendors, who promptly answer the private messages, say the systems are 99% mechanical but they monitor it (I guess this is where the 1% comes in) and they check every week the availability of shortable stocks. I trade it at IB via TB and very, very seldom is a stock temporarily unavailable for shorting. The vendors say the systems perform best in crazy markets like now.
This system has a nice steady win percentage. He did exceptionally well during the high volitility in the fall of '08. This is one of the more reliable systems that I trade. He just has to make sure he doesn't get caught in a big drawdown.
Hard working vendor keeps on updating the system to get the best back test result. However, real time performance is getting worse. No stop in such volatile market combined with bad timing makes the system a "wish me luck" gambling machine.
Here is a system I could even recommend to my mother (if she ever traded futures, of course). Gabi is talented, and here he uses his skills to ensure a safe and reliable gain on a regular basis. Since he takes less risks by trading only on his strongest hunches and capital preservation in mind, the gains (and the fluctuations) are obviously smaller than on a riskier system. A great system for the moderately daring amongst us.
Make sure you're ready to have a position of up to $3,850,000 open at one time. Huge drawdowns. I should have stopped when my account lost the first $10,000!
At least recently, this system seems to lack discipline of any kind. It may work out long term, but it appears to be broken now. It is a tough market right now, but similar stock systems are still working.
Apparently the stop-loss is too liberal. After a short run of success, we lose all gains? Even after this begins to happen nothing is done to prevent further draw-down, although we are 18 days deep in losses? I'll stop-loss my end, then. : ) Good-bye system.
Perhaps a revision is due to the system. New subscribers beware.
Drawdown has struck again. System was overleveraged and traded like mad. Developer said he would adress the problem, but next day was even worse. In this state, system cannot be recommended.
Looks like the vendor is pressing to catch up. 4 losses out of the last 6 trades and another potential today. Needs to go back to waiting for high percentage shots to come out of the slump....
To the other subscriber about the price: it is not weird if you manage and pay for a portfolio of 10 different systems... having so many losing trades in a row is a killer, even in a portfolio, as their is an opportunity cost. Are you aware of what professional systems you can buy for $200 on the market?! In a managed accounts firm?... It is rather developers here and subscribers that have to be realistic...
AS I write my review, this is obviously not a good time for this system. However I still believe Helmut will turn it around and resume his profitable wins. What I cannot understand is how subscribers who shows concern about a $200 subs. fee stay with a system that can easily change their account value (up OR down) by $5-10k every month! That's just plain weird...
It's a bit of a spurt type system. Timing the subscription to this system is very important. It doesn't always go up, and has flat periods, like its present one. Communication has never been this vendor's strong suit.
I'm a relatively new subscriber to C2. I like the beginning and end of day signals however not much time (3:58PM) at the close to make two trades. Been forced to use after hours trading. The win ratio over time is about 2/3 based on 10 years of their own data at codedeep. Hopefully, that is what we'll see. Too early for coronations...
I've susbcribed to this system and discovered its main drawback : The Risk taken per trade. think about it : for some trades, the risk taken is more than 30% of a 10K capital. This is very dangerous. If you take the same risk, your capital can be wiped out with 3 bad trades.
On Feb 5th, this guy is down over 70% for the month. Are you freaking kidding me?? He has gone short GY, and kept adding to a losing position for 400 pips. He says he's been trading for 5 years, but this is a classic newbie mistake. And unfortunately it's cost me a lot of money. Idiot.
UPDATE interesting system, but low level of trades makes it difficult to assess whether this system is profitable and sound, or whether it just has not yet been hit with the big one. For now, will give 4 stars, which is good, given the very few promising systems here as of this writing. -- Index
